The Board of Director's of Terrace Tourism Society wishes to inform the membership that the City of Terrace has provided the following notification to TTS effective immediately:
• Sever its relationship with the Terrace Tourism Society; and
• Cease all funding to the Society, as per our July 12, 2006 correspondence
As a result of these actions, the Terrace City Council has breached the 2% AHT Bylaw 510-2004, the TTS's Business Plan and Memorandum of Understanding.
With regards to the 2% AHT, Scott Miller, the President of the Terrace and District Hotel and Motel Association has asked to appear before the Regional District Kitimat- Stikine Board of Directors on December 8th, 2006. Mr. Miller states, “The TDHMA does not support the City of Terrace in its efforts to terminate the Terrace Tourism Society and re-direct the associated funding.” He formally requests that the RDKS Bylaw, 510, 2004 be rescinded immediately.
The TTS Board will send a complete information package to the membership and the media later this week. If anyone in the public would like a package, please have them contact our office 635-0832. Please review all materials and provide your thoughts and feedback to TTS as quickly as possible.

What has happened to this Society's funding?
Terrace is a fantastic place to live, work and visit!! However, we are not generally known to be by those living outside the region. Promotion of Terrace and region as a destination is best done by an organization such as Terrace Tourism, as a destination marketing organization, and a board of dedicated volunteers who believe in the cause and support it without personal benefit.
Every business and individual in the community has a vested interest in promoting Terrace and supporting Terrace Tourism and its members. It should not, however, be the job of the City to pay for individual businesses to develop and promote themselves as tourism providers. Tourism product development is the responsibility of each individual business, and one that product is in place, the DMO is the organization that can assist in promoting them to the rest of the world and the customers out there.
So, let's get on board and support Terrace Tourism. Negative publicity from City Hall and disgruntled business people and former members aside are more than it will take to bring down an independent, not for profit organization that has a strong mandate and dedicated Board of Directors
What HAS happened to the funding? And why has the City pulled out of the contract? Was it legally binding and what happened to bring this about?
